How I Help

You can expect the work we do to be helpful and beneficial. That’s both because I’m good at my job and because of the strong relationship my clients and I build with each other.

Here’s some of what you can expect in our work together:

  • I’m apparently not your stereotypical therapist. I can’t believe how many clients have told me how much they appreciate that I actually talk to them, because they’ve had previous therapists who’ve mostly just let them go at it on their own. I don’t do that, and my clients seem to appreciate that. (Imagine that!)

  • Effective coping strategies matter. This is another thing many clients have said they haven’t gotten from other therapists they’ve previously worked with. I’ve got tons of ideas and suggestions, because it’s so helpful to have a handful of these skills in your back pocket. It can help make things even a little bit better.

  • That said, therapy is about more than just coping. My work is centered on the core belief that we are each capable – and deserving – of living a deeply meaningful life. That’s so much bigger – and so much more worthwhile – than just coping.

  • We won’t just talk about how you feel. I won’t just be asking you, “And how do you feel about that?” We’ll be working through the lens of thoughts, feelings, and behavior. If we’re hitting all three of these things, to one degree or another, we’re on a good path.

  • We absolutely will talk about your values. If there’s a word you’ll hear me say more than any other, it’s values. We will talk about your values a lot. I’m really passionate about values in my work, and my clients respond to it really well. Values are awesome.

  • We’ll also talk about self-compassion. Some of my clients may argue that I’ll bring up self-compassion even more than values. That’s fair. And that’s because self-compassion practices are also transformatively helpful and awesome.

  • My work is informed by progressive and feminist values. Absolutely, full stop.

What You Can Expect

Admittedly, there's a whole lot that therapy can't do. It can't protect you from pain; it can't change what has happened; it can't prevent terrible things from happening again. And, yet, there's still so much reason for hope.

Investing in therapy is investing in yourself, your well-being, and your life moving forward.

When you work with a therapist who’s a really good fit for you, so much good can come from it. When you show up to therapy knowing it’s an investment in yourself, and you’re ready to dig in and do the work, your experience of your life can change for the better.

But you don't have to take it from me; here's what my clients have said:

Many of my clients tell me that, because of our work together, they are better able to respond to moments of pain because of the strategies and skills they’ve developed over the course of our work together.

They tell me they’re better able to support themselves like they do other people – with compassion, kindness, and respect.

They tell me they’re better able to cope with uncertainty.

They tell me they feel more grounded and more hopeful.

They tell me they know themselves better, and that they have greater clarity about what matters to them.

They say their life feels more rewarding, meaningful, and fulfilling because of their investment in this work.
